What is HIFU & What Can It Offer You?

In today’s world, so many of us seem to have too much to do in such a small amount of time. We forget to slow down, wanting it all and wanting it NOW. We want a quick fix for everything; online groceries, streaming the latest movies, Amazon Prime everything, weight loss in a bottle, reverse signs of aging in the blink of an eye. But we can’t have everything we want……or can we?

When it comes to looking and feeling our best, cutting-edge technology has continued to surpass our expectations and offer up just what we’re looking for. That includes HIFU treatments; the latest non-invasive technology to target focused areas of stubborn fat while tightening the skin all within the quickest possible treatment time and up to 20% of results seen immediately.

What is HIFU?

HIFU, or High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, is a cosmetic treatment that can be effectively used to destroy fat cells and tighten skin in the target areas treated. HIFU treatments use high energy waves, different from the ultrasound procedures used by doctors for various medical imaging procedures. The high frequency of the ultrasound wave results in heating under the skin, delivering focused energy. “Damaged” cells are then flushed out of the body naturally, through the lymphatic system and continues for up to 3 months.

HIFU can be used as a one-off treatment to firm and lift your areas of concern on the face, neck, and other areas. Using ultrasound energy, it encourages and stimulates natural collagen production, resulting in firmer skin. The best part is, it provides beautiful, noticeable effects through an “ultrasonic facelift” without making a single incision to your skin.

Although your results won’t last as long as a facelift or tummy tuck, in roughly 60-90 minutes, you’ll walk away with fabulous results with less recovery time, pain, and financial commitment.

Where Can HIFU Treatment Be Used?

While you’ll hear lots of chatter about HIFU facials, there are various areas of your body that can benefit from these treatments. The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery states the benefits of nonsurgical ultrasound treatments, including HIFU, can include:

  • smoothing fine lines and wrinkles on the face
  • tightening of the skin on the neck
  • reducing the appearance of jowls
  • lifting droopy eyebrows and eyelids
  • smoothing and tightening chest skin

But you’ll also love hearing HIFU treatments will target those stubborn pockets of fat in areas including:

  • abdomen
  • thighs
  • buttocks
  • flanks
  • hips

Many of our clients come in to lift the cheeks and jawline for enhanced definition. While the tightening of the neck and buttocks are incredibly popular, overall skin smoothing is always a sought-after service.

How Soon Are HIFU Results Seen?

As with all treatments, results can vary from patient to patient. While many see immediate results, most will see the most significant results 2 to 4 months post treatment. Studies have shown significantly improved lifting of the skin as a result of HIFU treatments. Many study participants have reported increased elasticity of the cheeks, thighs, and lower abdomen in particular after 12 weeks, including noticeable improvements in the smoothing of the face and neck after 90 days.

How Many HIFU Sessions Will You Need?

The number of HIFU sessions you will need depends on a few factors; the area you’re treating, the bulk of the adipose tissue (connective tissue composed mostly of fat or the fatty tissue if you will), the extent of sagging skin, and the desired result. Before you get discouraged, the good news is, just 1 session is usually sufficient for most patients. If you require 2 or more, treatments are spaced 3 months apart. You’ll also want to follow up with a maintenance HIFU which is required once a year to maintain optimal results.

Can You Combine HIFU And Other Treatments?

The good news is, HIFU can also be safely combined with several other treatments to help you achieve your desired results. At Tickled Pink Aesthetics, we welcome all your questions and are happy to set up a consultation if you’d like to discuss the best plan for your wants and needs. No matter where you choose to schedule your HIFU treatment, it’s important to feel comfortable addressing any concerns with your practitioner and sharing your overall goals up front to ensure you’re both on the same page.

How Does HIFU Differ From Laser Treatments?

HIFU uses sound energy with unique properties, allowing it to bypass the surface of the skin. This results in treating at depths other non-invasive cosmetic devices simply can’t. HIFU ultrasound stimulates collagen production in the skin’s foundation resulting in a clinically significant lift of tissue over a few months.
Laser treatments rely on light energy, which are unable to reach deeper layers of the skin. Lasers are also limited by their optimal temperature, allowing them to treat only superficial skin. This also means laser treatments cannot offer you the lifted skin results HIFU can.
